ACT Planning Authority has approved Geocon's $70 million Canberra City Luxury Hotel project
212 luxury hotel rooms & high grade office space
Start construction on the city hotel by the end of 2020
Expect to open 2022
Set to be Canberra’s first luxury mixed-used building, the CCLH will be built at 60-70 Bunda Street adjoining Garema Place and include 212 luxury hotel rooms, high grade office space, a wellness centre, multi-use event space, bars, cafes, signature restaurant, ballroom, function spaces, club lounge, outdoor bar and roof terrace pool.
Geocon plans to demolish the two existing two-storey commercial buildings in the coming months and replace them with a new luxury hotel and commercial offerings.
The company bought the Garema Centre building at 70 Bunda Street (Block 5 Section 47) in September 2017 for $13.35 million.
At the time, Geocon Managing Director Nick Georgalis said the plan was to introduce a bold, new hotel brand to Canberra that will reflect the city’s status as Australia’s national capital.
"The Garema Centre site is in the very heart of the city, with close proximity to world-class shopping in the Canberra Centre and some of Canberra’s best restaurants, bars and attractions, and 300 metres from the light rail stop," he said.
Renowned architects Fender Katsalidis have been enlisted to design the project.
The company is hoping to start construction on the city hotel by the end of 2020, with expectations it will be fully operational by 2022.
