The biggest hotel construction period in New Zealand is in full swing with about $2 billion of construction completed or underway.
Over the past year, over 1,000 new hotel rooms have opened:
Auckland - 440 keys
Wellington - 380 keys
Queenstown - 170 keys
Christchurch - 86 keys
Another 3,900 are under construction, two thirds in Auckland.
The current boom has been driven by demand from visitors outstripping supply with international visitor numbers rising from 2.4 million to nearly 3.9 million a year.
