The NZ Super Fund is investing in a $300 million hotel portfolio, which includes two properties in Auckland and one in Christchurch. The fund plans to continue looking into buying other hotels.

The phased investment will be in the Four Points by Sheraton and Adina Auckland Britomart in Auckland, the BreakFree Hotel in Christchurch.

The fund believes New Zealand needs additional hotel accommodation to support both domestic and international arrivals growth. New Zealand is projected to need 4,500 more hotel rooms by 2025 with Auckland alone needing 4,300. There are only 2,500 in the pipeline. Under the arrangement of the partnership, two joint ventures were created, one to own hotel properties and the other to manage them and identify future opportunities.
